Dr. Stephenson is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology.
A graduate of Duke University in
Durham, North Carolina and The Bowman Gray School of Medicine at Wake Forest
University in Winston Salem, North Carolina, Dr. Stephenson completed his
residency in ophthalmology at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit.
Dr. Stephenson is the Chief of
Anterior Segment Surgery at William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak. He is also actively involved in the surgical training of
ophthalmology residents at William Beaumont Hospital. A former clinical professor at Michigan State University, Dr.
Stephenson has been involved in clinical research for the National Institutes
of Health in Bethesda, Maryland.
Dr. Stephenson specializes in
cataract, glaucoma and laser surgery, including LASIK.
He has received many accolades and honors in the past few years
including being named as the top cataract specialist in Southeastern Michigan
by Detroit Monthly Magazine in 1995.
Dr. Stephenson is also listed as one of the best anterior
segment-cataract and refractive (glaucoma) surgeons in the book, The Best
Doctors in America: Midwest Region 1996-1997, and also in the 1998-1999
Edition. He was named by the Detroit News in 1998 as one of the best
Ophthalmologists in the entire state of Michigan. In October 2000, Dr.
Stephenson was named the best ophthalmologist in the entire Detroit area by Hour
Magazine.

of Ophthalmology. Dr. Stephenson
is also an Associate Member of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive
Surgeons. In addition, he is a
member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the Michigan Keratorefractive
Society, the American Medical Association, the Michigan Ophthalmology Society,
the Michigan State Medical Society, the Oakland County Medical Society and the
Detroit Ophthalmology Club.
Dr. Stephenson is on staff at
William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak and St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in
Pontiac.
