John Bushaw, OD, grew up in St. Clair Shores before attending Grand Valley State University, where he completed a bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Science. He went on to achieve his doctorate degree from Indiana University School of Optometry, where he graduated in May 2018. Prior to joining Oakland Ophthalmic Surgery, Dr. Bushaw completed a residency in Ocular Disease and Surgical Co-management at the Jonathan M. Wainwright Memorial VA and Pacific Cataract and Laser Institute in Walla Walla and Kennewick, Washington.
Dr. Bushaw specializes in the diagnosis and management of ocular diseases such as glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, dry eye syndrome, cataracts, macular degeneration and many more. He is also well trained in contact lens fitting, both with soft disposable lenses and rigid scleral lenses. He is an active member of the American Optometric Association and the Michigan Optometric Association. Outside of the office, Dr. Bushaw enjoys spending time with his dog, reading, exploring Detroit, golfing, camping and hiking.
